Road to the Revolutionary War | American Revolution | Hands-on Activity
You are purchasing a complete HANDS-ON Timeline activity & student game about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War. Appropriate for grades 8-12.
Essential Question: What transpired in the 13 Colonies after the French and Indian War that contributed to the start of the American Revolution?
I use this activity AFTER I have already taught the events leading up to the Revolutionary War @ 1763-1776 AD as a way to reinforce and review the concepts.
Specifically you will:
1) Put your students into small groups of 2-3 students.
2) Have each “group” create a (3-page-long) Timeline using the handouts provided and cut out all of the provided Timeline Clues.
3) Provide each group with a Cheat Sheet of the events between 1754-1776 (provided) OR just their prior knowledge, to make the activity more advanced.
4) Start the race! Students will work with their group to identify the event/person/document in each Timeline Clue and the year it occurred.
5) Check that their timeline is complete and give the group a Puzzle Clue. If they have correctly completed the timeline activity they will be able to solve the puzzle and win the game! Optional: to add an element of fun bring in a small lock box with a 3-digit padlock and set the code to XXX- the first group to open the box wins! (Escape Room style) FUN!!
***ANSWER KEYS INCLUDED! You will need to provide scissors and glue sticks. A treasure box and 3 digit lock are optional!
