U.S. Government | California State Government | Webquest Activity
This webquest activity introduces students to the structure and function of California’s State Government while helping them make connections to the federal system they may already know.
Specifically students will:
Introduction/ Warm-up- students begin by analyzing two visually engaging infographics—one illustrating California’s state government and the other the federal government. Both highlight the three branches (legislative, executive, and judicial). Using these visuals, students complete a comparison chart to identify key similarities and differences, building a foundational understanding of how both systems are organized and how power is distributed.
Webquest- Using provided links and a 4 page guided handout, students independently research the three branches of California’s government in greater depth. As they navigate each website, students answer questions and fill in missing information on their handout about roles, responsibilities, structure, and key facts (such as term lengths, duties, and how officials are selected in California state).
