U.S. History | Great Depression | 1930's | Dust Bowl | A Document Based Activity
In this U.S. History, Document Based lesson your students will research the following questions:
How did the Dust Bowl affect life for American farmers already hit hard by the Great Depression? (1930's)
How did the Dust Bowl affect migration?
What was the government response?
Your students will:
1) Warm-up: examine a map of the Dust Bowl area and complete a corresponding map activity.
2) Complete overview notes on the Dust Bowl (who, what, when etc.) on a graphic organizer using a QR Code link to an online article OR their class textbook.
3) Be placed into small groups to examine 16 artifacts (primary & secondary sources- photographs, documents, letters etc.) and write down their observations on the provided chart. (Comprehension questions included). Appropriate for grades 8-12!
