U.S. History | Lead up to the Revolutionary War | Gallery Walk Activity

In this U.S. History activity, your students will be learning about the “Events that Led up to the Revolutionary War” (Causes) in chronological order. You can use the materials in this activity either as a Gallery Walk Activity OR as a teacher led class presentation and discussion (teacher choice): (Directions are included for both activities)


As a Gallery Walk Activity, your students will complete:

1) Introductory Activity (Warm-up)- Student will read an excerpt of Thomas Paines’ “Common Sense” and answer questions about the excerpts to introduce the struggle between the 13 Colonies and Great Britain.

2) Gallery Walk- Students will visit 15 Stations around the classroom and learn about the events surrounding the lead up to the Revolutionary War in chronological order. As they visit each station, they will answer corresponding questions to gauge their understanding of the events.

3) Exit Card- After they complete the Gallery Walk, students will exhibit their understanding of the events by using the 11 “assigned” key terms correctly in a summary of the events.


As a Teacher Presentation/Whole Class Activity, your students will complete:

1) Introductory Activity (Warm-up)- Students will read an excerpt of Thomas Paines’ “Common Sense” and answer questions about the excerpts to introduce the struggle between the 13 Colonies and Great Britain. (In small groups or as whole class)

2) Teacher Presentation/Lecture- The teacher will present the 15 Stations of information in power-point format. As the information is presented, students will answer corresponding questions to gauge their understanding of the events.

3) Exit Card- After they complete the power-point questions, students will exhibit their understanding of the events by using the 11 “assigned” key terms correctly in a summary of the events.


The materials provided have a lot of flexibility and could be used in many ways to suit your class style.
