World History | Middle Ages V. Renaissance | Humanism | Art, Literature, Science

$3.49Price

In this activity, students will explore the key differences between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Specifically they will address:

Essential Question: How did learning in the Middle Ages differ from learning in the Renaissance, and in what ways did the rise of humanism transform fields such as art, literature, anatomy, cartography, engineering, science, and education? Appropriate for grades 7-12!

Specifically:

  1. The lesson begins with a short background (warm-up) reading and guided questions to build foundational understanding and review previously learned concepts.

  2. The teacher will then present a series of full color slides highlighting characteristics of the Middle Ages/Renaissance art, science, literature etc. while students take organized notes using a provided graphic organizer.

  3. Students will apply their knowledge by analyzing six different examples from both time periods, identifying whether each example belongs to the Middle Ages or the Renaissance and explaining their reasoning.

  4.  Exit Card: Students will creatively finish the partially completed images provided to visually represent the defining characteristics of the assigned era: Middle Ages or Renaissance.

All materials, slides, student handouts and answer keys are provided.
